Symbol of our identity
The Cannonau grapes
Wine has written the history of our community since 1665 when the Jesuit priests started the cultivation of grapes and olives. It is estimated that in 18th century they had already planted 80.000 vines of Cannonau. Wine has been a distinctive badge of pride in Oliena since then and has become part of its culture to the point that here Cannonau is not a wine like others, here in Oliena it has its own name. In fact the Cannonau of Oliena is also known and appreciated by the name of NepenteInfatti il Cannonau di Oliena è conosciuto ed apprezzato con il nome di Nepente.
